Walker hated playing music growing up. Well, “hate” is a strong word. He didn’t like it. He quit piano and guitar lessons; both of which were regarded as a distraction from basketball and video games. It was when, at 16, he realized that he could teach himself music that he discovered a passion for it. This discovery kicked off a renaissance period of learning. Starting with guitar, Walker quickly added bass, music-production, piano, singing and songwriting. By recording himself, he discovered the perfect outlet. He began sharing little snippets of what he was working on on SoundCloud and found, to his surprise, that thousands of people wanted to hear it.
In 2018 one of Walker’s highschool acquaintances passed his demos along to Warner; a stroke of luck which ultimately lead to his first distribution deal. Since then, his releases have seen him featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds, Alternative R&B and Study Break playlists as well as Soulection Radio, OnesToWatch and Lyrical Lemonade. In 2023, his homemade debut album Phew received a warm critical reception and earned him nearly a million streams. Says a close friend and collaborator: “Walker makes DIY music that sounds like it was recorded in a professional studio. His talent as both an artist and a producer is rare.”
